It seems as if Nintendo has had the word “online” at the top of their priority list for a while, as new features such as having it’s own internet enabled channel and automatically updating leaderboards are now promised to ship alongside the game.
This “Mario Kart’ channel will install from the disk, and stay on the Wii Menu even if the disk is not in the drive. This will also be used for initiating races and other Xbox Live-esq features such as online status and rankings.
Is this the true first step from Nintendo opening the door to the online world? Probably, but let’s just hope they add online enabling updates to games that ship before Mario Kart. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, anyone?
