For those of you who do not know Qtrax is, think subscription based (and of course DRMd) unlimited free music downloads, from the RIAA. Yeah, the last part kind of got us too, but just pretend they are buying you drinks, or something.Many of you out there seem to be skeptical about downloading software created by the RIAA. Call us your guinea pigs — we will walk you through the whole process and if we aren’t sued by the end, you know it’s safe. Read the live blogging and walkthrough after the break.

12:00 A.M - Qtrax was supposed to be available as of midnight EST, and it seems as if their site is getting hit pretty hard. No link for it yet.

12:11 A.M - 404 errors now on their site - I’m glad this is P2P based so we won’t have to rely on their oh’so wonderful servers. /sarcasm

12:47 A.M - Still no update from the Qtrax site. This is definitely not leaving good first impressions. If you are bored (like us) why not be a cool kid and subscribe to our wonderful and shiny RSS feed?1:21 A.M - Rumor has it that Qtrax won’t be launching until 12:00 A.M PST instead of EST. This means the East Coast may have to wait until 3:00 A.M instead.1:36 A.M - Yeah, we’re getting sleepy too. For those of you who care, and would like to get even more tired, you can check out the Qtrax’s company stocks here.

10:17 A.M - More than eight hours later since the last update, and there is still no sign of a download link. What is going on? We are going to investigate further. Keep checking this post for updates.

1:00 PM - The site is now displaying to some users: “Due to massive demand, the beta download is happening in stages.” More on this soon.

3:27 PM - It seems as if Warner, EMI, and Universal are now saying that they have nothing to do with Qtrax. Qtrax said that they thought they would have had an agreement by now. Interesting — this may be a very bad thing and the reason behind the delay.

3:36 PM - BREAKING - We have just found a link on a German website to download the .2 beta version of Qtrax. We are downloading it right now, so we will let you know what language it is in and if it works or not very shortly.

3:55 P.M - We have successfully downloaded and installed Qtrax, but it won’t allow us to register or download any song. It gives an error message of “Downloads Coming Soon,” but it does say that there are over 9 million tracks available. Now it is time to wait…

3:57 P.M - Check out the screenshot gallery below. Not much working here yet, but the layout of Songbird works pretty well.

7:43 P.M - The Qtrax beta is now officially live! We will post our review shortly.

10:48 P.M - (2 Days Later) - It seems as if they are activating users accounts in waves. Our account has still not been activated, so a little more waiting and you all will have the review. Patience is a virtue.
