Theme parties for major title releases are not unheard of in the video games industry. Dressing the part and throwing a large party usually garners at least some favorable press for a game. This party, however, will not be remembered as one of those parties.

At a theme party dedicated to the hit PS2 action game, “God of War II” attendees were treated to a gruesome spectacle, of sorts. In the middle of the party area was a freshly deceased (and by fresh, I mean still warm) goat, from which party-goers were offered the chance to retrieve and eat offal from the goat’s stomach. For those who are either too lazy or uneducated in the arts of Wikipedia, offal is processed animal intestines.

Accompanying the deceased goat were topless women, “dressed” in ancient Greek garb and body paint. In keeping with the ancient Greece theme of the party, attendees were encouraged to participate in knife throwing contests and snake wrangling. As one can only imagine, animal rights groups have condemned the event as “distasteful and irresponsible”.

Although one might think that Sony couldn’t have possibly topped this little stunt, there actually is more to this story. Not only did Sony throw this lavish party, but members of the Official Playstation Magazine were onsite to provide readers with a full account of the merriment; pictures and all! Included in this 2 page spread is the headless goat (well, technically the head is still attached…sort of) and a woman dressed in a Greek outfit that fails amazingly well at hiding her naughty bits. Good stuff.

Sony claims it does not endorse the senseless killing of animals in order to promote their games and has claimed they are investigating into who exactly they can shift the blame on to instead. Although the magazine was scheduled to hit newsstands this Tuesday, upon hearing about the 2 page spread, Sony has reportedly recalled 80,000 copies of its official magazine although many subscriptions have already been shipped out. Do I smell a prized collectible in the making?

You just can’t make this shit up folks.
