Nintendo shipped a ton of Wii’s this past holiday and has beat Sony out of the top rung for releases. Microsoft still holds the crown because of the year head start. It’s only a matter of time before a winner is decided in the Next-Gen War.

Chicago (IL) - The final numbers are in, and in terms of unit sales, the Wii is the unquestioned winner of the holiday shopping battle, with estimates claiming that Nintendo’s console is outselling the PS3 at a rate of two to one, reports The Times Online.

The success of the Wii comes as a huge surprise to many, after Nintendo essentially conceded the battle of the last generation to Microsoft and Sony. The unconventional motion-sensitive controller, combined with the weird name, also set many to thinking that the Wii would keep Nintendo in third place.

killa says: PS3 is way too damned expensive. Yes, I know it’s because of the BluRay player, you don’t have to tell me, but it’s just stupid. Your average consumer doesn’t have the ability to even use the BluRay player, much less the PS3, at it’s actual ability. Most are going to take it home and hook it up to a SDTV. They lose the “High Def” from everything, meaning nothing looks as good as the demos you see in the stores. That, and there’s no killer app. XBox360 has Gears of War and a killer online service backing everything from its’ games to TV and movies. The Wii is just too f***ing cool. Sony had better find something fast or they’re going to fade quick. They have next to no market share this generation and it doesn’t look like they will gain any.

I honestly don’t want to front upward of $1000 to play a video game system that has nothing cooler than my PS2 other than sweeter graphics and a BluRay player (as some of you know, I believe both BluRay and HD-DVD are doomed to fail). I don’t want any of the same old crap, I want something new, so I bought a Wii. Sony can take their $1000 system and shove it where the sun doesn’t shine. I know it makes me sound like a Nintendo fanboy but I also have an XBox360. For $400 you get a system capable of 65% of what the PS3 can do. I’ll take that any day over something that’s doomed to fail thanks to having no killer app.
