Analysts from market research firm, iSuppli, state that Sony is losing an average of $300 average between the two versions of the PS3 console that are sold. This is not including the package of packaging, cables, and controller.
It seems that if Sony doesn’t up the attach rate of games and accessories to consoles sold, that they may hurt a lot during the initial PlayStation 3 launch. Currently, the attach rate is around 1:.70, of consoles to games respectively. Nintendo’s states that the Wii console is going to be profitable at launch, and Microsoft states that they make around $75 per Xbox 360 unit sold.
